Overview

An online teacher training course that is focused on how to teach Grammar at all levels of Greek. Grammar is the favourite subject of teachers and of some students too, and they like it much more than they like the vocabulary. How we can manage to attract all our students and at the same time to go off the beaten track in teaching Grammar?

The teaching proposal of the Hellenic Culture Centre is based on its long experience in teaching Greek as a second/ foreign language, and includes different alternatives to enrich your teaching. The trainee teachers must prepare a final assignment consisting of creating an original communicative teaching material to teach Grammar at any level you are interested in.

Intended for
  • Greek Language teachers with no or little language teaching experience
  • Practitioners who have experience in teaching Greek in non-formal contexts, like in NGOs, or wishing to teach a language they know or Greek as L2
  • Experienced language teachers of Greek who feel they need to upgrade their practical skills
  • Directors of language schools who plan to add Greek as L2 and design curricula for different learners’ groups
  • Other educational or managerial staff of language organisations, assistant or shadow teachers
Methodology

Apart from study hours according to a time-schedule, the trainees will attend six (6) hours online synchronous Skype sessions with the trainers (optional). The trainers will be communicating through the forum of the platform and will be answering any questions.

The synchronous sessions are not obligatory, but the trainees participate in order to ask questions and to “meet” all participants. In case a trainee cannot attend the session, she/he will receive the session recorded.

Trainee teachers have to upload at least one post in every Unit of this course and to upload at least ten answers to other participants. They also should work on the Final Assignment as well as on filling in the evaluation form of the course.

Trainers will be at the trainees’ disposal in order for the latter to contact them through Skype, phone, or e-mail.

Content

The course consists of six  modules:

  1. Grammar or Text and Vocabulary?
  2. How do you teach Grammar?
  3. Planning Grammar teaching
  4. Teaching materials for a creating Grammar lesson
  5. Assignment
  6. Reflection and  Evaluation

Trainee teachers must upload at least one post to each Course Unit and at least ten replies to other participants. In addition to the set study hours, trainees can opt to attend six (6) hours of online synchronous Skype sessions with trainers where trainees can ask questions and ‘meet’ fellow participants.
