Specialist skills, advanced language development and professional readiness for the

Greek Presidency in 2027

With 31 years of experience in interpreter training, the Hellenic Culture Centre, in partnership with Iphigenia Centre for Hellenic Studies, is organising the Training Programme for Interpreters Working with Greek 2026–2027. This comprehensive seven-month programme is designed for professional interpreters who wish to strengthen their language and professional skills in preparation for the increased demands associated with the Greek Presidency in 2027.

The programme runs from December 2026 to June 2027 and includes 60 hours of specialist training, focusing on linguistic accuracy, familiarity with formal and institutional language settings, and effective handling of demanding professional interpreting situations.

What the programme offers

The programme is designed to enable participants to:

  • Refine their use of Greek in demanding professional and formal settings.
  • Expand and organise their specialist vocabulary, with an emphasis on political, institutional and administrative communication and related subject areas.
  • Become familiar with the style and linguistic conventions of formal discourse, including complex phrasing, official texts and demanding spoken contributions.
  • Improve their interpreting accuracy and fluency by developing effective strategies for conveying complex meanings and specialist terminology.
  • Practise interpreting into each participant’s language.
  • Prepare linguistically and professionally for the demands they may encounter during the Greek Presidency in 2027 and on other international or institutional assignments.
  • Handle almost any topic with the confidence that comes from knowledge, rather than the uncertainty of being “almost right”.

Invest in your professional development

Make progress measurable rather than a matter of perception

Who the programme is for

The programme is intended for interpreters with a very high level of proficiency in Greek (C2+) who are already working professionally or are about to start working with Greek.

Its aim is to further refine their language skills, deepen their knowledge of specialist terminology and strengthen their readiness for demanding interpreting situations.

Why choose our programme?

Our Centre’s long-standing involvement in training interpreters working with Greek underpins a teaching approach that combines experience, reliability and continuously updated teaching materials.

Over 31 years, we have supported more than 100 interpreters in their professional development through advanced language programmes, systematic practical training and a sound teaching methodology tailored to the specific demands of the profession.

The new programme draws on this experience and uses up-to-date teaching materials that meet the needs of professionals required to use Greek accurately, fluently and consistently in institutional, political and specialist communication settings.

Methodology

Participants meet in small groups of three to five for two hours once a week. They are introduced to the subject area they will explore, equipped with the appropriate tools and given interpreting practice in every class. Between sessions, they access the Moodle platform, which provides a wealth of learning materials, and prepare for the next class. The platform has been continuously updated since 2009 and, for 17 years, has been the only platform offering such a rich range of resources for Greek.

A seven-month learning journey

The programme’s duration allows participants to deepen their knowledge of the language and terminology gradually, practise systematically and consolidate their learning. Compared with a short intensive course, its extended structure gives participants time to work through the teaching materials, apply what they learn and steadily build greater confidence in their language skills.

The training is organised around the needs of professional interpreters and draws on the Centre’s teaching expertise, experience from previous advanced language programmes, and modern, up-to-date teaching materials.
