Intended for 

1. third-country nationals who are at least 18 years old and legally residing in Greece, if they have the other supporting documents
2. to recognized political refugees with 3 years of residence in Greece
3. to Greek expatriates over 18 years of age
4. holders of a long-term residence permit and a second-generation residence permit
5. spouses of Greeks with a child and with 3 years of residence in Greece
6. immigrants with 7 years of residence in Greece, if they have the other supporting documents *

*ATTENTION! Having already the certificate of Greek (even at a level higher than B1!) obtained after examinations by the Ministry of Education –  Centre for Greek Language, does not fall under the conditions of exclusion of any of the examinations. The exam for the Certificate needed for Greek Citizenship is one and includes the Topics: LANGUAGE, history, geography, Greek culture and political institutions.

How can I find out my level in Greek?

To make a free assessment of your level of Greek and the goals you need to set, contact us. You will take an oral and possibly a written test too, and we will help you plan your preparation.

Methodology 

Following your enrolment and payment (of 5 or 8 or 16 lessons depending on your programme) you will be given access to our online platform containing all preparatory materials. You study the materials, do the exercises and send them to your teacher who corrects and returns them within 48 hours.  

One-hour weekly meeting (or more) with your teacher online on Skype.  More hours of preparation can be arranged.  However, that should not be necessary if you do your homework according to the timetable agreed with your teacher.

One teaching hour is 60 minutes.

Where are the preparatory courses held?

Online courses are held on IPHIGENIA CENTRE FOR HELLENIC STUDIES E-learning platform and include a one-hour session with your teacher on Skype.

Are there any private lessons?

Private/one-to-one lessons based on the personal programme created for each individual student are available.  

Content 

Topics  of the preparation programme are the following

• Greek history
• Greek culture
• Political institutions
• Geography of Greece
• Typology of the exam exercises
• Points that need your attention during the Language Exam
• Development of the four language skills (writing, reading, speaking, listening) 
• Psychological parameters of the examination process and the interview, which need to be investigated
• Information on the institutional issues concerning the Examinations for the Greek Citizenship   
• Detailed schedule for covering the exam material

What teaching materials are used?

Through a series of activities in all four language skills (writing, reading, speaking, listening) based on the exam topics, students are able to meet the requirements of the exam and develop Cultural Awareness . 

Specially designed teaching materials are used, which cover the topics of the exams, and the exercises of the Exam Topics Bank, on which the students practice further after the live lessons.

Fees 

How much does it cost to prepare for the exam?

The group course (4-8 students) costs 12 euros/hour and is prepaid for 8 weeks, 192€, and you can, if you wish, continue in a new course.
The course with two students costs 20 euros/hour and is prepaid for 8 weeks, 320€, and you can, if you wish, continue in a new course.
The one-to-one online/skype course costs 39 euros/hour and must be taken for at least one hour/week. It is prepaid for 5 hours minimum, 195€.
The course is NOT offered for self-teaching, you can only register if you also take a course with a tutor/teacher and meet with him/her every week. The use of the platform is free of charge.

You must register for the exam preparation programme, prepaying at least 5 hours if you are taking a private lesson, and 16 hours of online synchronous tutoring if you are taking a group lesson or a lesson for two students.

You can also take private lessons as often as you want, but the tuition for the private lessons cannot be reduced.

Tutors 

The seminars are taught by our experienced philologists and specialized partners. Responsible for the individualised curriculum and syllabus of each student is Mrs. Ifigenia Georgiadou, who has been teaching modern Greek since 1979. She has developed a methodology for preparing for exams, especially in the production of written language.

Our students have a success rate of over 90% each year in relevant State Greek exams.

Certification 

We issue  a certificate of attendance of the course that you will do to prepare for exams.

We offer exam preparation courses and other certificates of Greek proficiency. The exams are organized by the Ministries of Education and Interior and are supervised by the Greek Language Center.

Working language

Greek is the working language in this course. All candidates must have a level of Greek proficiency of at least B1.

Cancellation Policy

• GROUP lessons and SEMI-PRIVATE lessons cannot be cancelled (if the student does not attend a scheduled meeting, they pay 100% of the lesson fees if the lesson takes place)
• A student can cancel a scheduled PRIVATE lesson more than 6 hours before and pay no fees
• In case a student cancels a scheduled PRIVATE lesson 6 to 3 hours before, they pay 50% of the lesson fees
• In case a student cancels a scheduled PRIVATE lesson 3 to 1 hour before the scheduled time, they pay 100% of the lesson fees
• Full refunds will be given up until the last day to register for the programme (2 weeks before the beginning of the course) 
• For late cancellations of PRIVATE courses there will be no refund. However, the student is entitled to re-register within one year’s time. In that case the student pays the extra cost, if any 
• When students are given refunds the bank charges are payable by them. In case the course is cancelled by the Centre, full refund will be given to the student at no extra charge

NOTES:

1. To find out your level in Greek, it would be good to do one of the grading tests that you can find above, in the Grading Test button. Keep in mind that it is best to print it out and write it by hand, without seeking any help. The test is gradually becoming more difficult. So, you do not have to finish it. Then scan it and send it to us, so we can suggest you the best course option that suits your level.
